Top Ten Costa del Golf Courses
Andalucian Dream Homes's resident golf pro, Harry Smith offers his top ten courses on the Costa del Golf.
Valderrama Golf
18 Holes - Par 71 - 6234 Metres
Reckoned to be one of the most challenging courses on the coast, Valderrama has hosted nine Volvo Masters, the Ryder Cup and the World Golf Championship. The biggest names in Golf have all put their talents to the test here. Join them if you can afford the green fees.
Harry adds - “It is one of the toughest tests in Europe and the only place in Spain where the Ryder Cup has been held.”
Las Brisas Golf
18 Holes - Par 72 - 6136 Metres
Described as one of the nicest courses in Europe, Las Brisas has a reputation for quality and superb challenges and has hosted both the World Cup and the Spanish Open on numerous occasions. Designed by the Valderrama king, Robert Trent Jones, it opened in 1969.
Harry adds - “This wonderful golf course is in pristine condition.”
Torrequebrada Golf
18 Holes – Par 72 – 5852 Metres
Said to provide golf at its best with a beautifully designed layout and well-maintained course, Torrequebrada is popular with all. Mountain and sea views add to its allure.
Harry adds - “A large number of lakes and strategically placed bunkers make every hole a different experience.”
Mijas Golf
36 Holes – Par 71/70 - 6348/5840 Metres
The friendly atmosphere of the club makes it a popular choice for all. With little rough and plenty of water, these relatively flat courses are reckoned to be a difficult par but an easy bogey.
Harry adds - "The Magic of Mijas! Both courses are forgiving but a real enjoyment to play.”
La Cala Golf
36 Holes – Par 72/73 – 5966/6187 Metres
Large elevated greens, tricky fairways and numerous water hazards make these two courses punishing but fair. Accuracy and form are essential for a respectable score card.
Harry adds - “Hilly terrain makes buggies a necessity. This tough course is, however, spectacular.”
Marbella Golf
18 Holes – Par 72 – 5953 Metres
Steep ravines may terrify some at the first. This course does not allow for any lapse in concentration even to enjoy the superb, panoramic views.
Harry adds - “This course is home of some of the finest holes in the south of Spain and a club house where the food is second to none.”
El Paraiso Golf
18 Holes - Par 71 - 6616 Metres
Good management and reasonable rates make this traditional British style golf course very popular with tourists and locals alike. Designed by world famous Gary Player with two lakes, abundant trees and glorious mountain views you'll be glad you visited this course for its play and location.
Harry adds - “This course would suit all handicaps.”
Parador Golf
18 Holes – Par 72 – 6040 Metres
Founded by the Spanish Royal Family in 1925, this is the oldest club on the Costa del Sol. This course can be both challenging but kind and is renowned for having a unique character.
Harry adds - “Some spectacular holes along the beach can be enjoyed here.”
Santana Golf
18 Holes – Par 72 – 6203 Metres
Lying in an avocado plantation, between two rivers, this course is sure to become a Costa del Sol favourite. Its location makes it a pleasure to walk and brilliantly shaped holes mean it is a pleasure to play.
Harry adds - “This course is new but beautifully manicured.”
San Roque Golf
18 Holes - Par 72 - 6440 Metres
One of the most impressive golf courses on the Costa del Sol, San Roque Club is the venue for the PGA European Tour Qualifying School in November. This course will impress golfers of all standards.
Harry adds - “Tough but fair, this course has some interesting holes.”
