Exploring Sotogrande
Wherever your interests lie, there are plenty of things to keep you occupied in and around Sotogrande. The area is something of a Mecca for sports fans with world class golf, polo, sailing, horse riding, diving, cycling and tennis clubs available as well as many smaller sports facilities.

One of the areas main attractions is the world famous Valderrama golf club, which played host to the Ryder Cup championship in 1997. Valderrama is considered to be the best golf course in Europe and has won numerous awards. The course itself was designed by Robert Trent Jones and Seve Ballesteros, Spain’s most famous golfer, had a hand in designing some of the courses features.
The area surrounding Sotogrande benefits from some exceptional-quality golf courses. One of the most famous golf courses in the world is Valderrama, where the Ryder Cup was held in 1997. Keen golfers cannot resist travelling to Sotogrande to play on the famous greens. There are also two other exceptional courses in the area: the old course at Sotogrande and San Roque. These three clubs form golf’s golden triangle and attract the crème de la crème of the golfing world.
Sailing is also very popular in the Sotogrande area and the port itself has facilities for up to 600 boats. A full harbour service is available all day every day and boat owners can easily access satellite and television facilities.

The Santa Maria Polo Club is also a major attraction, as Sotogrande is the only place in Europe where polo can be played all year round. Top polo players regularly take to the field here. All these amazing sporting facilities and the fantastic setting combine to make Sotogrande one of the most desirable sports destinations in the whole of Europe.
Location wise, Sotogrande is blessed and is within easy driving distance of some of the jewels of southern Spain. The gorgeous town of Marbella and the exclusive shopping paradise of Puerto Banus are both just a short drive away. The area is also close to the surfer’s paradise of Tarifa, the charming town of Estepona, the British colony of Gibraltar, the historic town of Ronda and the port of Algeciras – which is just a short ferry ride from Morocco and North Africa.
Each of these places is well worth a visit and each one is just a short drive from Sotogrande.

Another excellent day trip from Sotogrande is taking a boat out into the Straights of Gibraltar to go whale watching and dolphin spotting. You can also do this in Tarifa where a wider range of species swim. A variety of companies run day trips in each area.
