Mini guide to Marbella
Visitors to Marbella and the surrounding area will never be short of things to do as the region offers such an abundance of leisure activities. Golf, tennis, sailing, shopping, sightseeing, sunbathing or simply people watching – there are plenty of opportunities to do all of them!

Yet another of Marbella´s attractions is its park and green areas. One of the most interesting parks is the Arrollo de la Ripresa with its famous Bonsai museum. Here you can see one of the most important collections of bonsai trees in the whole of Europe as well as enjoy a variety of sports facilities.
Culture vultures can take in the collection of Dali statues that line the Avenida del Mar area, or catch a performance at the town’s stunning outdoor amphitheatre at the Parque de la Constitution. There are also a variety of historic buildings and churches to visit in the old town area.
In the old town, in amongst the historic buildings and beautiful churches, you will find the Marbella Museum of Spanish Contemporary Engraving, which features works by Picasso, who was born just down the coast in Malaga.

There are many interesting places to visit in the areas surrounding Marbella too. The nature reserve at Nagueles, just outside the town, is a wonderful family day out and the perfect surroundings to enjoy a picnic lunch or tea.
Sports fans have a wealth of golf courses to choose from with around 80 courses around Marbella and the entire coastal area. Golf is a major industry in this part of Spain and the courses here are reportedly some of the best in the world. The fantastic climate also means that golf can be played all year round.
In an area known for it’s upmarket and celebrity image, shopping is an important attraction and both Marbella town and the nearby area of Puerto Banus have a fantastic range of designer and high street shops where you can pick up an exclusive designer piece or an off the peg bargain. A wonderful way to spend a day in both Marbella and Puerto Banus is to take a short boat trip from Marbella marina. A small ferry boat leaves every hour during the summer months and makes the short 25 minute trip between Marbella and the marina at Puerto Banus. The journey itself is spectacular and provides stunning views of the La Concha Mountain and the coastline of the Costa del Sol from the boat. A return trip will cost around 15 euros and is worth every penny.

Another reason why Marbella has become so popular is its proximity to many other fantastic towns and villages, which make excellent day trips. Within a two hour drive from Marbella you can be in Seville, Granada, Gibraltar, Cadiz, Rhonda, Tarifa or you could even take the short boat trip across the straights of Gibraltar to Morocco and North Africa.
Staying closer to Marbella and the Selwo Adventure Park is a short drive away in the town of Estepona. Selwo is a safari park where visitors can observe hundreds of animal species on foot or travelling in the special 4x4 vehicles.
There are also a variety of Roman and Moorish monuments and ruins in Manilva, San Pedro and Casares – all within a 20 minute drive of Marbella town.
In fact, there is almost too much to say about Marbella and so the only way you will get a true feeling for its beauty and what it has to offer is to come and see it for yourself. Be warned though, with so much to tempt you, you may never want to leave!
