Getting to Marbella

The lovely town of Marbella is situated close to Puerto Banus and Fuengirola on the southern Andalucian coast and is around 65 kilometres from Malaga airport.

It is very easy to get to Marbella by road, bus and taxi – and even by sea if you are lucky enough to own your own boat! If sailing into the port is not an option then the easiest way to get to Marbella is to drive.

Driving to Marbella is very straightforward from the international airport at Malaga (which is the nearest and biggest airport). The journey takes around 40 minutes by car and you have a choice of taking the main N340 / A7 coast road or the less crowded AP7 toll road. Although you have to pay a charge to use the toll road, it will cut about 10 minutes off your journey time.

As you drive out of the airport you need to follow the signs towards the main N340 / A7 coast road which will be signed towards Cadiz and Algeciras. Once you are on the main coast road you need to follow the signs towards Torremolinos and Benalmadena. When you begin to get closer to Benalmadena you will see signs about the carriageway asking you to choose whether to take the A7 or the AP7. Both routes will take you to Marbella but the AP7 is the toll road and you will have to pay to drive on this one. If you stay in the right hand lane then you will travel along the standard coast road and if you move over to the left you will be routed onto the toll road. Although you will obviously have to pay for the toll road it can definitely be worth the money during the summer months. It is a lot quieter than the coast road and it will shave around 10 minutes off your journey time. Whichever route you take, Marbella is well signposted and you will have no problems finding your way there.

Marbella is also within easy commuting distance of Gibraltar airport and this is an equally straightforward journey. The journey will take around an hour and once again you need to follow either the N430 / A7 coast road or the AP7 toll motorway.

From Gibraltar you need to follow signs towards La Linea, Estepona, Marbella and Malaga. You will travel through La Linea, Estepona, San Pedro and Puerto Banus before you arrive in Marbella.

Getting to Marbella on public transport is also very straightforward. From Malaga airport you can take an express coach which goes directly to Marbella bus station. This is a very straightforward option and you will find the coach stop just outside the arrivals hall at Malaga airport. Buses are also available from Algeciras and La Linea at the western end of the coast and if you miss the direct services you can change to a variety of buses in Estepona.

At present there are no train services available directly to Marbella, the nearest place you will be able to get to by train is Fuengirola in the east or Algeciras in the west.

Another option of course is to take a taxi. Taxis can be easily found outside the arrivals halls at Malaga airport, Gibraltar airport and at regular points the entire way along the coast.
