Exploring Marbella
It is undeniable that Marbella is a beautiful town with many park areas, stunning buildings and squares with ornate fountains. Wherever you go you will find something interesting to look at or an ornate park with benches to sit and rest. The town is dotted with areas that offer respite from the sun and provides many wonderful tranquil places to relax and watch the world go by, or to read a book.

Once you have taken in the history and the ambience of the Casco Antigo – or old town - one of the best places to head for is the wonderful Avenida del Mar. This area is almost opposite the entrance to the old town and is easily recognisable by its greenery, ornate fountains and traditional Andalucian tiled benches. Avenida del Mar is one of Marbella´s hidden gems - a wide, marble floored area which connects directly to the beach. But do not make the mistake of rushing directly to the sea or you will miss something special in the Avenida itself. Although it is lined with fountains, benches, greenery and shops, the focal point for the area is the unique collection of bronze statues by the famous Spanish artist and sculpture Salvador Dali. Each statue has been signed by the artist and they make a fascinating and cultural diversion.
After admiring the statues, you can follow the sounds of the waves to the sea front and see Marbella´s impressive promenade. The promenade runs along the entire length of the town’s stretch of beach and is one of the best paseos – or walkways - on the coast. It is very wide and long with many excellent restaurants and cafes. There are lots of little ice cream kiosks and the views out to sea are unbeatable.

Spain’s answer to St. Tropez certainly has its fair share of luxurious hotels too. Marbella has many hotels right in the centre of the town, both the big elegant types and the smaller boutique style hotels. Most of the hotels are just a short walk away from all the amenities and attractions but if you would like to explore some places a little further a field then you will need to travel to the bus station, which is just outside the town centre. Here you can catch a bus to most other places on the coast such as Puerto Banus or Fuengirola, or even further to maybe Gibraltar or the traditional white pueblo of Mijas.
Young or old, party mad or more refined, whatever you want Marbella is sure to have it. There are some very busy bars along the infamous golden mile – which is home to some of the most expensive and glamorous hotels, properties and nightclubs. Here the music pumps through the night and all the people who live and holiday there are the last word in glamour.

Some of the most popular – and exclusive - places to go are Suite, which is the nightclub that belongs to the 5 star hotel Puente Romano. A short distance from there you will find Olivia Valere´s nightclub and exclusive restaurant which is equally as expensive and definitely a place to be seen.
If you prefer your entertainment to be a little more low key then head to the Plaza de los Naranjos where you will find some pleasant and certainly quieter wine bars. Here you can enjoy a tapa with your drink and during the warmer months there are often live music or flamenco performances to watch.
The restaurant choice is impressive all over Marbella; from haute cuisine to fun, fast eateries for all the family to enjoy. Every nationality of food is served for every type of budget. If you are stuck to decide where to choose, in most hotels and on the doorsteps of shops there are various free mini publications available to pick up.
