Getting to La Linea

La Linea lies in the province of Cadiz, next to Gibraltar and around 70 kilometres west of Marbella.

The easiest way to get to La Linea is to fly into Gibraltar airport, which has regular flights to London, and simply cross the border into La Linea. The area is clearly signed and it will take you approximately 5 minutes to get to on foot and even less time if you have hired a car! You could also choose to arrive in La Linea by taxi and you will find a taxi rank just outside the airport arrivals hall.

The large international airport at Malaga is also within easy driving distance and it will take you about an hour and a half to reach La Linea. Although it is a little further away, the big advantage of using Malaga airport is that it offers you a huge range of low cost carriers and destinations.

If you are travelling to La Linea you can also fly into the airport at Jerez, which is approximately two hours away by car.

Most people travel into La Linea from the direction of Malaga airport. When you leave Malaga airport you need to follow the signs towards Cadiz and the N340/A7 coast road. The N340/A7 is the main road along the coast and if you stay on here you can drive directly into the centre of La Linea. You will pass by the side of the major resorts of Torremolinos and Benalmadena and then you will be given a choice of staying on the same road or using the AP7 toll road. If you want to stay on the coast road then use the two right hand lanes and if you want to use the toll road use the two left hand lanes.

The toll road is split into a number of separate sections between Benalmadena and La Linea and you will need to pay to use each section. Although you need to pay, the major advantages of using the toll road are that it is much faster and there is much less traffic using it. This means you will reach La Linea much more quickly than if you were using the N340.

Whether you use the toll road or the coast road, you will drive past Fuengirola, Marbella, San Pedro, Estepona and Manilva before you arrive in the La Linea area. The area is clearly signposted from all directions.

There are currently no train services running to La Linea so if you are planning to arrive in the area using public transport then you will need to take the bus. You can reach La Linea easily from both Malaga and Algeciras directions.

If you are arriving at Malaga airport and you are planning to use public transport, you can take either a bus or a train into Malaga city and pick up a bus direct to La Linea from there.

You can catch buses directly to La Linea from Malaga, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella, San Pedro, Estepona and San Roque along the coast. You can also take a coach directly to La Linea from Granada. There are various buses available from Algeciras, which stop off at various points along the coast heading eastwards.
