Getting to La Cala
You can easily reach the village of La Cala de Mijas by car as it is just a 25 minute drive west from Malaga international airport. It is also easily accessible from Gibraltar airport.

If you are planning to drive to La Cala from Malaga airport then you need to follow signs towards the main N340 / A7 coastal motorway, which runs the entire length of the coast. When you leave the airport you will come to a small roundabout where you will see signs towards Cadiz and Algeciras. You need to follow these signs which will take you onto a dual carriageway. After a short time you will see a BMW garage on your right hand side and there will be a slip road shortly afterwards, which is signed towards Benalmadena and Cadiz. You need to take this road, which will bring you onto the main coastal route. From here the journey is very straightforward and is just one straight road to La Cala.
On the way you will pass by Torremolinos and Benalmadena before you arrive at the bustling town on Fuengirola. Keep on going straight past Fuengirola, but remember where it is as it is a great place to visit from La Cala!
You are now just a 10 minute drive from La Cala and the stretch of road that runs between Fuengirola and La Cala has stunning views of the Mediterranean – just make sure the driver keeps their eyes on the road! After Fuengirola you will pass by El Faro, with its prominent lighthouse, and shortly after that you will see signs to La Cala. Come off at the slip road signed La Cala and take a left turn at the roundabout. You are now in the centre of the village.

If you are looking to travel to La Cala from Malaga airport by public transport then you have the option of taking a taxi, coach or train. There are plenty of taxis at Malaga airport and you will find them lined up outside the arrivals hall. It is possible to reach La Cala by bus and train but in both cases you will need to change.
A train route runs directly from Malaga airport along the coast as far as Fuengirola every 30 minutes. You will see signs to the train station from the arrivals hall at the airport and the journey takes about 35 minutes. When you reach the final stop you need to leave the train and walk a short distance to the main bus stop in Fuengirola which is just around the corner from the train station. Here you can pick up the M220 bus which will take you directly into the centre of La Cala village.
Coaches also run regularly from Malaga airport to Marbella from outside the arrivals hall. If you choose this method then you will need to take the coach all the way to Marbella bus station and then change to the M220 bus, heading in the direction of Fuengirola.

Travelling to La Cala from the western side of the coast or Gibraltar is also very straight forward. If you are driving then you need to follow the main N340 / A7 coast road in the direction of Malaga. From Gibraltar you will need to follow signs towards Estepona, Marbella and Malaga. Stay on the coast road following the A7 / N340 signs as the road will split just after Marbella. You will see signs to Elviria, Calahonda and Riviera before getting to La Cala. After signs to Riviera you will soon see a large BP garage on your right hand side. Take the exit after the garage signed to La Cala and this will take you directly to the centre of the village.
