Exploring Coin
There is plenty to see and do in Coin and its surroundings. The area is a centre for outdoor sports and outdoor pursuits and is the perfect environment to enjoy horse riding and trekking, bird watching and golf.

Coin is an important centre for the equestrian industry and horse breeders converge on the town every year for the famous Coin horse fair. The fair includes competitions, sales and a fantastic horse show takes place every night where you can watch some of Andalucia´s ´dancing horses´. The whole area comes alive with music, bars, outdoor restaurants and stalls and is an event not to be missed. Horse riding fans can ride at a variety of schools and stables in the area and enjoy the stunning Andalucian hills and countryside from the saddle.
If horses are not your thing then there are plenty of other things to keep you occupied during your stay in Coin. There are a number of excellent quality golf courses in the area including the Alhaurin Golf complex and the Lauro Golf club. In fact the wider southern Andalucia area is home to around 80 golf courses including the world-famous Valderrama – so finding somewhere beautiful to tee off certainly won’t be a problem!
Drive around 30 minutes from Coin and you will find yourself at the Hipodromo Costa del Sol. The Hipodromo is primarily a horse racing track, but it often plays host to special events such as music concerts. The track has excellent facilities, a children’s play area and a variety of bars and restaurants. Race meetings take place during the winter season, which runs from February to April and during the summer season, which runs throughout June, July and August. An evening at the Hipodromo is an excellent night out during the summer. There is plentiful, free parking and the site is very family friendly.

Shopping wise, Coin has a lot to offer visitors. In addition to the main La Trocha commercial centre, there are a variety of small, artisan shops selling unusual clothes, antiques and furniture. Coin also has two markets; one on a Saturday in the town centre and a Sunday market at the La Trocha centre.
When you want to travel a little further afield, there are plenty of places to visit that are within easy reach of Coin. If you are looking for a little rest and relaxation on the beach, then you can enjoy the miles and miles of golden sands in nearby Fuengirola. The journey will take around 30 minutes in the car and it is easily commutable by bus from Coin too.
Fuengirola is one of the largest resorts in southern Andalucia and has some fantastic amenities and attractions. You can simply retire to the beach to sunbathe or, if you are looking for something a little more energetic, you can try your hand at water sports such as wind surfing, sailing, diving or water skiing.

As well as the beach and the hundreds of restaurants and bars that run alongside it, highlights of Fuengirola also include a zoo, a water park, a castle, a bullring and a large shopping centre called Miramar Park. You will find all sorts of shops at Miramar including some familiar UK high street names such as Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Evans as well as Spanish favourites Zara and Mango. There is also a large cinema, which regularly shows films in the original English language versions.
Away from the coast, the white village of Mijas is another great place to visit within easy reach of Coin. The drive to Mijas will take about 20 minutes and you will pass some wonderful mountain scenery on the way. Mijas itself is a traditional white town, where you can ride on one of the famous ´burro taxis´ - these are donkeys which carry people around the cobbled streets. From Mijas you can enjoy spectacular views across the bay of Fuengirola and much of the Costa del Sol. The town also has a bullfighting museum and many traditional shops selling pottery, leather goods and traditional souvenirs.
