Getting to Calahonda
One of the many reasons that Calahonda has become so popular during the past decade is that it is excellently located; approximately 25 minutes drive from Malaga airport. It is easily accessible from both the main N340 / A7 coast road and the new AP7 toll road.

If you want to drive from Malaga airport to Calahonda then you need to follow the signs at the airport to the N340 / A7 coast road signed towards Cadiz and Algeciras. After leaving the airport you will see signs for Torremolinos and Benalmadena and you will need to follow these. Stay on the main coast road and when you pass Torremolinos and begin to approach Benalmadena you will start to see signs for both A7 and AP7 and you will eventually be asked to choose which road you want to take. Both roads will take you to Calahonda, but you will have to pay on one of them. If you stay in the right hand lane then you will follow the main A7 / N340 coast road. If you take the right hand lanes then you will be filtered off onto the toll road.
The route you choose depends on whereabouts in Calahonda you are heading to and whether or not you want to pay to drive on the toll road. The toll road is a better option if you are travelling to the top of Calahonda and the A7 / N340 is a better option if you are travelling to the beach end of Calahonda. The toll road is also a shorter route and will shave around 10 to 15 minutes off your journey. However, you will have to pay of course and the prices rise throughout the summer.
It is also very easy to reach Calahonda from the western side of the Costa del Sol. If you are coming from the direction of Gibraltar or Estepona then you can either follow the main coast road or, once again, you can choose to drive on the toll road. You need to follow signs towards Marbella and Malaga. You will pass San Pedro de Alcantara, Puerto Banus and Marbella and then you will begin to see signs to Fuengirola. If you are driving on the coast road then once you have passed Marbella you will see signs for Elviria and eventually Calahonda. If you are on the AP7 toll road you need to leave at junction 200, which is the Calahonda exit.

Travelling to Calahonda on public transport is also possible, although it will take a little longer than driving. From the airport you have a choice of bus, train or taxi, although if you take the bus or the train you will need to change to another bus in either Marbella or Fuengirola.
It is possible to head towards Calahonda using the train, which you can catch from Malaga city centre or from Malaga airport. The train only runs as far as Fuengirola in the west so you will need to leave the train here. To reach Calahonda from Fuengirola you will need to walk a short distance from the train station to the main bus stop, where you can pick up the M220 bus in the direction of Marbella. The M220 will take you directly to Calahonda within about 20 minutes.
Taking a coach from Malaga airport is also a possibility but you will need to change your mode of transport in Marbella. A coach runs frequently from Malaga airport to Marbella bus station. Take this coach and stay on it all the way to Marbella. When you reach Marbella you will need to swap to the M220 bus route which will be heading towards Fuengirola. The journey back to Calahonda will take around 25 minutes.
At Malaga airport you will be able to pick up the coach from outside the arrivals hall and you will need to walk a short distance to catch the train. The train station is at the airport and you will need to cross the departures hall and car park to get there.

Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the airport to Calahonda. There are plenty of taxis outside the arrivals hall at the airport.
If you are heading to Calahonda on public transport from the western side of the coast then you will be able to pick up buses at La Linea and Estepona as well as Marbella to Calahonda. There is no train service running towards Calahonda from the western side of the coast.
