Mini guide to Benalmadena
This part of southern Andalucia boasts some of the finest beaches for miles around and the facilities available to both tourists and residents are second to none. But if sunbathing is not your thing, or you would like a few ideas to keep the kids occupied, then there are plenty of day trips, things to do, and places to visit.

One of the benefits of Benalmadena Costa is that, although the sun shines all day long during the summer months, there is a cooling sea breeze which prevents you from getting too hot and bothered! This means you have the perfect environment for making the most of all the outdoor activities on offer.
If you are a golf fan then there are plenty of courses around Benalmadena where you can play a round or two. Torrequebrada Golf has an excellent 18-hole course, a restaurant, and offers wonderful views down to the coast and across the sea.
There is also an abundance of tennis courts, swimming pools and water-based sports clubs where you can try your hand at jet skiing, sailing and diving.

Why not spend a leisurely afternoon taking a trip on one of Benalmadena´s famous cable cars? The route goes from the coast up to the top of mountain above the pueblo and you’ll enjoy some stunning views of the entire shoreline and the surrounding areas.
Nature lovers will enjoy the stunning Parque de la Paloma with its abundance of wildlife and flowers. A new cactus area was recently opened at the park and the entire area is a tranquil and beautiful place with lakes, waterfalls and various animal enclosures. The park is free to enter and is a beautiful place to visit for a picnic or an afternoon relaxing in the sun.
There is plenty of marine life around Benalmadena and you have two fantastic centres to choose from. The Sea Life centre has hundreds of different examples of the creatures that live in the ocean off the coast of Spain including sharks, stingrays and seahorses.
In addition to the Sea Life centre, you can also pay a visit to the fantastic Selwo Marina. Selwo covers a large area and has a variety of exhibition areas and daily shows. You can see dolphins, sea lions, penguins as well as crocodiles, snakes and much more so it is a really excellent day out. The Selwo Marina is open everyday throughout the summer.

Tivoli World in Arroyo de la Miel is another great destination for day and night. Enjoy a range of rides at this large amusement park, which is set in large tropical gardens. After the fun of the rides you can stay for dinner at one of the park’s many bars and restaurants and enjoy the entertainment and magic shows.
As Benalmadena is so central, it is also a great place to base yourself if you would like to explore some of the areas surrounding it. From here you have an excellent choice of places to visit including the city of Malaga, where you can find extensive shopping facilities, the Picasso Museum, the Cervantes theatre and plenty of other historical and tourist attractions.
Mijas pueblo is also a short drive or bus ride from Benalmadena. Mijas is another typical Andalucian white town and is a great place to visit for a day trip. The views from here are amazing and there are lots of great souvenir shops and restaurants to enjoy.
Travelling in the other direction, why not spend a day in Fuengirola. This is another great beach resort with plenty of shops, a zoo and a great indoor shopping centre called Miramar Parque.
Drive a little further along the coast road and you will arrive at Marbella, a beautiful area with a stunning old town, which is worth the trip in itself. After you have spent a few hours wandering around the cobbled streets then you can head to the sea and the miles of fantastic beaches around this part of the coast. If you walk from the old town towards the beach down the Avenida del Mar, you will come across a collection of bronze sculptures by the Spanish artist Salvador Dali. This area is a great place to sit, relax, look at the statues and listen to the calming sounds of the fountains and the sea nearby.
If you are still full of energy after your trip to Marbella, a ten minute drive west will take you to Puerto Banus, one of the most exclusive and famous resorts in Spain.
